Breakaways

The Breakaways Group were formerly the Garway W.I.; a decision was taken in December 2006 not to continue affiliation to the W.I. but to form a new independent women’s group.

The Breakaways meet on a monthly basis to listen to invited speakers and also enjoy each other’s company. Meetings are on the second Thursday of each month in Garway Village Hall at 7.30pm. At present the membership is 18 but new members and guests are always welcome. An open meeting is held each year, with a speaker who is felt will appeal to a wider audience. The meetings always conclude with the members enjoying excellent refreshments, provided by the members.

Subscriptions are currently £20 per year and guests are asked to contribute £2 per meeting, with refreshments included.

The current programme of talks will include varied subjects, including: The History of the River Severn Ferries, the setting up of a school project in Uganda and the story of Pappa’s Shoes (as told by his daughter), about a prisoner of war who escaped from a prison camp. We try to make the programme as varied as possible including “hands-on” sessions such as bead and jewellery making and sugarcraft. Once a year we arrange an outing usually to a garden, arboretum or country house.

We are a very friendly group who would welcome new members.
